SECUNDUS NEW-CALIBRE SERIES 1930's

A recently acquired (auction) Secundus new-calibre series model from the 1930's.

The models in this New Calibre Series were advanced mechanisms for their time with high grade gold grill lever, unique shaped movements that are hardly seen anymore, superior break-resisting mainspring, 15 jewel (fine red ruby) movement, balance and hairspring, non-magnetic and non-rusting. They featured well made substantial cases fitted with patent dust and moisture stopping well tubes.  They featured fine-silvered dials, bold figures and hands.

The movements of these new-calibre watches embodied a completely new principle in horology. While the plates were of normal 7 (3/4)" size, the principle working parts upon which the functioning and timekeeping qualities of the watch depend, viz the main hairspring, the complete wheel train, level, and balance were kept on a full 11" scale.

Information pamphlets for this series at the time describe the The New Calibre timepieces as follows: "The New-Calibre movement sacrifices no single horological principle to conform to a given shape. The important difference is that for the size of the watch, we have incorporated a much larger barrel, lever and balance than usual, giving greater strength and robustness and vastly increased to wear and tear"

This particular model below, the New Calibre "E" featured in versions that were Nickel Silver, 'Everbright' Steel; Rolled Gold 30 Micron Quality; 18 caret solid gold substantial case. This particular model is the Rolled Gold 30 Micron Quality

A testament to the quality of this watch is the fact that this watch is still winding and functioning a 100 years on.
